Cutlery from the collection of Georges Holper

Download information about the exhibition:

Gallery Rauminhalt is proud to host the first public presentation of the cutlery collection of Georges Holper, which comprises extraordinary pieces produced during the second half of the 20th century.

Utensils are inextricably linked to the development of human civilisation. Their primitive functionality and aesthetics have evolved throughout history according to numerous cultural specific traits. This is why the formal characteristics of cutlery pieces are notably diverse. It is no surprise that renowned designers have tried to reinvent these essential everyday objects. Their cutlery designs have become emblematic of their own take on forms, as materials of the modern age, such as plastic and stainless steel, eventually replaced the traditional silver cutlery set.

The Holper collection brings together creators from Italy to Austria, Germany and Scandinavia, namely Carl Auböck, Helmut Alder, Ron Arad, Gio Ponti, Joe Colombo, Achille Castiglioni and Ettore Sottsass and many more.
